Trend Chart - Violent Crimes - Numbers

There are four standard violent crime categories that are a part of a Uniform Crime Report - Homicide, Rape, Assault and Robbery.

The chart in the upper right may more accurately reflect the usual pattern of violent crimes. It combines Robbery, Assault and crimes of Battery.

Battery is not a part of the Uniform Crime Report. The line between this category and the more serious charge of Assault is somewhat arbitrary.

Note that the Assaults in 1984-86 are higher than usual throughout the city. This was the result of a short term state law requiring charges for all domestic abuse calls.

These charts are useful because they represent the actual numbers of each crime instead of the density of crime per square mile.
