DEMOGRAPHIC MAPS

These maps are derived from the U.S. Census. The April, 2000 Census is being released slowly over the next two years. Data from the "long form" will not be available until the spring of 2002. "Short form" data was released for Wisconsin in mid-August, 2001.

As a result, many maps rely upon 1990 U.S. Census information. This includes income, employment, education and other critical data.

Data tables have also been developed by the Nonprofit Center of Milwaukee for most key Census information. These tables (and maps) can be customized for any neighborhood boundary set. But they are limited by the "building blocks" available in the Census. For example, income data is only available for clusters of about 6 blocks known as "block groups."

Data tables and maps are being made available on the U.S. Census Bureau's web site -"www.census.gov ". The smallest level of detail at this site is the "Census Tract" - about 20 blocks.

The detailed files with all available Census information can also be downloaded from the U.S. Census Bureau site.
