This series of housing maps are based upon the City of Milwaukee Master Property File (MPROP). This data has been organized electronically for each property in the city of Milwaukee since 1976. It has been archived annually.

The maps are based upon data summarized at the block level. When too few parcels are represented, information for the block is not displayed.

Change maps are somewhat complicated when housing is added or removed. The comparison is based upon the housing at each time period. Some of the increase in average housing value on a block, for example, may be the result of the loss of a low value home on the block.

Assessed housing values are based upon a computer-driven estimate by the Assessor's Office of the City of Milwaukee. The values are built from an examination of housing sales of homes that are similar to a home and sold within a local economic market. These "markets" are about 40 blocks in size. The uniformity that is visually obvious on the maps is a reflection of this estimation process.
