State Allowed to Intervene in Conserve School Dispute
A Vilas County judge approved Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen's request to intervene in a lawsuit over a private boarding school in northern Wisconsin, although his proposal to have former Wisconsin Supreme Court justice Jon P. Wilcox appointed custodian for the school's assets was rejected Wednesday. [Milwaukee Journal Sentinel]
Finding Leaders for America’s Nonprofits
Nonprofits foresee a need to fill 24,000 vacant or new roles in 2009, according to a new report by the Bridgespan Group. Yet despite the economic downturn, nonprofit organizations anticipate challenges in finding candidates who are both qualified for the roles and who are cultural fits with their organizations.
Nonprofit News Blog Now Available
Harvard University’s Hauser Center for Nonprofit Organizations is now carrying "Nonprofit News & Comment," a nonprofits news blog. It offers surveys of coverage of nonprofits appearing in major American newspapers, links to important stories, and commentary on stories and issues of particular interest.

Nonprofit Research Colloquium April 28: Revenue Diversity and the Financial Health of Nonprofit Organizations
Join Andy Holman and Doug Ihrke as they present the results of research that explores the influence of financial indicators on the health and survival of nonprofit organizations. The Nonprofit Research Colloquium Series is sponsored by the Helen Bader Institute for Nonprofit Management at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

The Helen Bader Institute for Nonprofit Management at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee invites you to attend an information session from 5:30-7:00 p.m. on April 28 to learn about educational programs designed specifically for nonprofit managers and leaders.
Forming a Nonprofit: The First Conversation
The Wisconsin Association of African-American Lawyers and Marquette Law School’s Milwaukee Legal Initiative for Nonprofit Corporations are sponsoring a continuing legal education seminar on forming a nonprofit on May 13, 2009. The seminar reviews the basic questions regarding the benefits and obligations of incorporation and tax exempt status and explains the requirements for qualification as a Wisconsin nonprofit corporation. There is no cost to attend, but space is limited, so register by May 6.
Mount Mary College Women’s Leadership Institute Presents Seminar Series for Nonprofit Leaders
This six-part seminar series, to be held on 6 consecutive Saturdays beginning April 25, will provide a basic “toolkit” for nonprofit leaders, covering a range of topics including organizational structure, planning, evaluation, financial management and fundraising. The seminars can also be taken individually.

Making the Most of After School Programs for Youth—June 2
Mark your calendars for the 11th annual Urban Initiatives Conference presented by the UWM Center for Urban Initiatives and Research (CUIR). The conference will focus on the quality of after-school programs for teens. Participants will review characteristics of programs that produce positive developmental outcomes for youth, and engage in problem-solving to address barriers to implementing high-quality programs. In addition, nationally-recognized speaker Frank Kros will provide an engaging and informative presentation on the latest research in adolescent brain development and implications for practice.
2009 ENTECH Nonprofit Technology Conference: Creating Dynamic Communities—May 18
Contemporary information and communication technologies are contributing to a new period of rapid social innovation. The 2009 ENTECH Nonprofit Technology conference will focus on opportunities for social collaboration afforded by these new technologies. The conference will present ideas on how organizations can adopt technology strategies to better reach their communities, both traditional and new. ENTECH is a project of the Helen Bader Institute for Nonprofit Management at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Fundraising and Development for Nonprofits—May 27-29
The 15th annual conference, Fundraising and Development for Nonprofits, sponsored by the UW-Madison School of Business, will be held May 27-29 in Madison. Space is limited, so register early.
New Ways for New Days: 2009 Annual Summit of the WI Nonprofits Association—June 1-2
Attention Wisconsin nonprofit professionals: plan to join your colleagues around the state on June 1 and 2, 2009 for the second annual summit sponsored by the Wisconsin Nonprofits Association. Pre-summit half-day workshops on June 1 will explore the board-staff partnership, corporate sponsorships, effective media and communications, and lobbying. Participants will be able to choose among 21 workshops in 3 sessions at the summit on June 2, along with ample opportunities for networking. Tim Delaney, the new president and CEO of the National Council for Nonprofits, is the keynote luncheon speaker.
