• The abuse and neglect of the elderly (aged 60+) includes self-neglect (the most prevalent from of neglect), caregiver neglect, financial exploitation, emotional abuse, and physical abuse.

• In the United States in 2003, nearly every two out of three elder abuse victims were women, and the majority of reported victims (77.1%) were Caucasian.

• Three out of four alleged elder abuse perpetrators are under 60, and most alleged perpetrators are adult children (32.6%), other family members (21.5%), or spouses/partners (11.3%).
