The Getting There 2040: Alternatives to Sprawl in Southeastern Wisconsin tracks the development of sprawl in Southeastern Wisconsin and examines the costs of sprawl, its environmental impact and alternatives to sprawl. Additionally, the study compares and contrasts two alternate development plans, the sprawl scenario and the model of a livable neighborhood. The study suggests that if sprawl continues Wisconsin residents will see an increase of more than 46 percent of vehicle miles they travel. In addition, the study suggests that if the livable neighborhood model is adopted, there will be an integrated supply of transportation choices, such as frequent transit service available within ¼ mile of walking distance.
