The Removing Transportation Barriers to Employment: Assessing Driver’s License and Vehicle Ownership Patterns of Low-Income Populations study assesses transportation barriers that may influence the likelihood of city residents finding and keeping jobs. The study notes that previous research has identified that city residents often have difficulty getting to jobs that are in the outlying areas of the metropolitan labor market. Many details are reported, but a major finding include that many low-income teens and adults who have no record of serious traffic offenses lose their driving privileges (and access to work) for failure to pay fines and forfeitures.
