The Socio-Economic Benefit of Transit in Wisconsin study tracks the social and economic benefits of public transportation services to the main economic sectors in Wisconsin. The data for this research was gathered via a statistical survey of residents of six cities in Wisconsin including Milwaukee as well as conducting a series of in-depth interviews of public transit riders in these cities. Many details are reported, but some major findings are 39.7 percent of all trips in Milwaukee made via public transportation are for work related purposes. Investment in public transportation in Wisconsin positively benefits the state. The findings suggest that for every dollar that is invested in public transportation, the state will see $6 in economic returns.
