Future Directions
Selection, creation and refinement of strategies is the ongoing role of the ENTECH Strategy Team.
Once appropriate strategies are selected, ENTECH must choose a role in moving forward. ENTECH may fulfill one or may of the following roles to implement individual solution strategies.
Researcher —As featured in this report, ENTECH may prioritize the gathering of data about the sector, thereby generating knowledge to inform new programs.
Consultant —ENTECH may also serve as a consultant to other service providers in the implementation of technology initiatives.
Advocate —By evangelizing the use of technology in nonprofits, ENTECH will increase the priority placed on IT by the management staff of nonprofits. Educating funders, consultants and the community at large will create opportunity in the sector.
Provider —ENTECH has the capacity and technical expertise to actually implement these projects. Possibilities include software and offering development, training, consulting, Internet Service Provider and other services common to a full service technology firm.
Summary of Milwaukee Nonprofits' Technology Capabilities and Needs
This section details technology issues present in Milwaukee's nonprofit sector, based on the data gathered during the technology assessments. The issues by category are Technology Planning, Training, Hardware, Protection and Security, Networking, Internet Use, Information Management and Policies. Appendix A lists the topics covered in an ENTECH Technology Assessment.
Within each category of this section is a challenge statement that concisely details the issue presented. Corresponding to each challenge statement are potential solution strategies listed in no particular order. In fact, most actual solutions will be revealed as combinations of the strategies provided. Therefore, the relevance, practicality or feasibility of one strategy should not preclude that of another solution. Additional solutions, not mentioned in this report, also exist that may address the issues presented.
